On April 10th, 2023, Phil Youwe locked the McGillivray Lake cabin door for the last time after 29 years service as our Sun Peaks Nordic Coordinator. Phil leaves behind a legacy of many diverse contributions to Nordic Skiing at Sun Peaks in his capacity as Nordic Coordinator, and beyond. Among many other behind-the-scenes duties, including advocating for our sport, he spent many hours schooling the grooming staff on the fine points of quality Nordic grooming, which was reflected in the longstanding high quality of grooming we have here. He was instrumental in mounting several events over the years including many Loppets, and the BC Sprint Championships here in 2019 (as well as in March 2020, which were fully organized but had to be cancelled at the last minute as Covid closed the world down). Phil was also the driving force behind the original formation of the Sun Peaks Nordic Club and our Jackrabbit Program, both of which are now in their tenth year. He leaves behind big ski boots to fill. Many thanks from all of us, Phil!
