The Destination Challenge is back for the 2025-26 season! You can do it as a solo, or teams of 2 or 3.
After taking a year off, this challenge is back on for this season. Thanks To Naomi and Brenda for coming up with a creative route and a flexible format that should accommodate most tastes. Here is what they've put together:
We are very excited to announce that the Sun Peaks Nordic Club Destination Challenge is back, and better than ever! This challenge covers a 400 km Scandinavia “Mega-Tour”, linking famous nordic skiing regions in Norway and Sweden. If you are a die-hard nordic skier who considers a 25 km ski a mere ‘warm-up’, join as a solo. Or, grab your bestie or your partner and ski as a team of two, to split the challenge. For weekend warriors, grab two friends and join for fun!
The route is in six stages:
Stage 1: Sjusjøen —> Nordseter Loop, Norway, 65 km. A high-plateau classic with rolling terrain and alpine scenery. Stage 2: Lillehammer Birkebeiner Track Rena --> Lillehammer, Norway, 54 km. Ski the full Birkebeinerrennet course point-to-point. Stage 3: Trysil Network, Norway. 80 km. Ski this long, well-groomed forest network and mountain loops with good snow reliability. Stage 4: Sälenfjällen Traverse, Sweden. 75 km. Ski the Vasaloppet arena plus extra loops in Högfjället & Lindvallen. Stage 5: Vasaloppet Ultra Segment, Sälen —> Mora, Sweden. 90 km. Complete the full 90 km Vasaloppet course. Stage 6: Mora Extended Loop system, Sweden. 40 km. Add classic Mora forest and lake loops to hit the final 400 km.
The challenge will run from January 1, 2026 to February 1, 2026. There will be prizes for the first solo, the first team of two, and the first team of three to reach the final destination. Come up with a fun solo or team name and email Brenda at [email protected] to join. Every Sunday, you will submit your weekly mileage. You must be a Sun Peaks Nordic Club member to participate.
