We are well into January and there have been no enquiries about the annual Destination Challenge. Are we all happy to ski powder and avoid the powder-buried nordic trails? Is there interest in an abbreviated Destination Challenge, perhaps a shorter time frame (e.g. 4-6 weeks), a shorter distance, and smaller teams? Or perhaps individual and team categories? And what about the individual challenges? Have people lost interest in the “ski every trail in a day”, ski your age in a day, ski both peaks, etc?
At this Fall’s AGM there was considerable interest in a Masters Ski group, with members taking turns helping with technique improvement through demos and drills, group skiing, etc. Is there still any interest in this?
We're looking for ideas for the club, both challenges and social activities. Last spring there was a lot of local interest in both, but so far no one has come forward with ideas or offers of help.
Without these other activities, the Club is simply a framework for the kids' Skier Development Program. If you think it should be more than that, please contact us with your thoughts or ideas….and offers to help organize!
Here is the info for the last year's challenge:
The Team Challenge for 2019 is “I Skied a Lot”, a take off on the Iditarod Dog Sled race. At 1000 miles/1600 km it is a more manageable goal than last year’s challenge! The challenge will run January 5th - March 3rd /19 inclusive. Teams may have up to 8 members and this year a ski outing with the entire team will give double miles! This is not a race, but a team challenge to support and reward social skiing. There will be a social potluck in March to give awards. Send your award worthy ideas…fastest dog? Lead dog? Please form your teams and have the captain forward the following information to Ann Carter (email@example.com).
Captain’s name, email and phone number
The captain will then receive further information regarding total tallying, etc. And don’t forget about the Individual Challenges(click here) If you do them during the Team Challenge dates, they also count as mileage for your team!
