TrailForks is a widely used trail app in the mountain biking world and they have now branched out into other trail types including Nordic Skiing. Our network is now uploaded onto the App and you can navigate using it. If you're not familiar with it, there are several useful features:
No data is used. The app works off your smartphone's GPS only, and works fully off grid and in airplane mode
It shows your current real time position in the network (with a blue dot, just like Google Maps!)
The dot has a direction arrow, which points in the direction your phone is pointing, so you can orient yourself on the map
Click on the trail and it brings up an elevation profile and trail description
Even if you know the network well, if you're a host (or even just a helpful local), it can be useful for assisting visitors.
The app used to be completely free but no longer is. You can download the app for free (Note that the Nordic Centre has free WiFi so you can do it there), then the BC region. Once you're on the app, choose a 60 x 60 km square which is your "home" region and this area can be accessed for free. For use on our Nordic trails, make sure you select the trail type "Nordic Skiing".
