Our Program is now full for the 2024-25 season and registration is closed. For reference, below is the information for this year
The 2024-25 Kids' Skill Development Program ("Jackrabbits") runs for 13 weeks. First session is Saturday, November 30th, 2024, last session Saturday February 22nd, 2025.
2024-2025 Season Program Information: Our program follows the Cross Country Canada Skill Development Program for children. Our program is directed at young skiers between the ages of 4 and up, who want to learn the basics of cross country skiing, both classic and skating, aiming to instill a lifelong interest in the sport, enhancing health and quality of life. This program helps children develop nordic ski skills as well as general physical literacy (agility, balance & coordination) in a fun and social environment. As part of the program we also offer introductory sessions in biathlon, using high tech battery-powered laser rifles (no bullets!) for kids aged 9 and up, (parental permission required). All our coaches are volunteers and have NCCP certification (National Coaching Certification Program) and Nordiq Canada licensure. Parent volunteer hours are mandatory. Please plan to volunteer at least twice during the ski sessions.
The start/meeting point is at the Nordic Trailhead at the SE corner of P5. All participating kids will need to have a parent or other designated responsible adult available on short notice to come to get a child who needs to leave a session early due to cold, fatigue etc.
Bunnies: 4 & 5 yrs - 9:45am - 10:45 or 11am weather and children permitting $70.00 (NB For this age group, parent accompaniment of their kids during sessions is now optional)
Please note that in order for a child to register in the program, both the child and at least one parent must be members of the Sun Peaks Nordic Club.
Equipment Rental: Skis, boots and poles are available for rental for $75 per season. This includes both classic and skate for older ages (ability dependent), younger kids classic only. Again this year, the equipment will be issued for the full season. This means ready access for the kids to go skiing whenever they like (skiing to school, anyone??), but everyone must bring equipment with them to the sessions and be aware whether it's a skating or classic session, and bring the appropriate skis! Any questions, contact our coordinator at [email protected].
