We are fortunate at Sun Peaks to have our trail grooming, trail pass sales and trail network management taken care of by the Resort staff. Since our trail passes cover all this, why do we need a club, and why should anyone join?
1. Junior Development We have an active Jackrabbit Program, officially called the Skill Development Program. To run this program, it must be hosted by a Cross Country BC-affiliated Club. This was the original reason for forming our Club back in 2013. Our local program is less about competitive skiing and more about providing sports skills for life. It has introduced many kids to cross country ski skills in a fun environment, and is an important way to build and promote the sport. Even if you don't have kids in the program, supporting this program is a great reason to join our club.
2. Advocacy Cross Country Skiing is well-supported by the Sun Peaks Resort, and for this to continue, there needs to be continued interest in the sport here. A larger club membership makes us a more convincing voice for the Nordic community in terms of input on issues such as trail access, trail improvements, new trail development and dog trails. If this is something you support, or better yet want to get involved in, that's another reason to join the club.
3. Ski Challenges and other club events The Challenges are popular and fun activities you can do both individually and as a team, and which give you some goals to aim for out there on the ski trails. Being a club member makes you eligible to take part (liability insurance requirements), which means you're then eligible for the prizes as well! From time to time we have other ski events for club members as well.
4. Social Activities Many of us tend to ski alone or in small groups, yet enjoy connecting with others who share a love of the sport. The Club hosts social events and also a team ski challenge where this can happen. Watch this site for announcements.
A Word About Our Fees To encourage people to join, we keep our membership fees to a minimum. Cross Country BC charges us a $19 insurance fee for each club member, to protect the Club and CCBC against liability risks. The remainder of your membership fee goes towards the incidental costs of running the club such as this website and our society registration. We depend on outside donations and grants for the bulk of our funding.
